Bringing big city products to our small town

In 2013, The Cottage Barn opened its doors as a specialty custom painted furniture and décor store, featuring the world-renowned and widely popular Annie Sloan Chalk Paint line of products. The vision was to bring these products, most commonly found in larger cities such as Richmond or Raleigh, to small-town Clarksville and teach a community about all its amazing possibilities to re-love their old family furniture heirlooms.

The store also features traditional home décor and gifts, and has expanded over the years to include classes and foods.

We’re open 7 days a week with hours that change seasonally and have an average of 4 to 6 part-time employees throughout the year.

Through operating Cottage Barn, Devin has found a passion for mentoring and empowering the community’s young people, especially young women. Since 2015 she has hired and trained over thirteen high school and college students, leading and guiding them into new experiences and responsibilities that will be essential to any future career they may choose.

Customers will find that The Cottage Barn is a retail venue offering locally handmade signs, candles, soaps, driftwood creations, and much more. We proudly serve as a stockist for Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, which was acquired through a very competitive process when the store first opened in 2013.

The Cottage Barn features our painted re-loved furniture. Flowing alongside the retail area of the store is the award-winning ice cream parlor and café.

Named 2016 Reader’s Choice for the best ice cream, the parlor offers twenty flavors of Homestead Creamery Ice cream. The Homestead Creamery, located in Burnt Chimney, Virginia, is made up of a network of small, locally owned dairy farms run by families who believe in the value of an honest day’s work. Each family is dedicated to the quality of life for the cows and the quality of products for their customers. Every scoop of ice cream is made with high-quality milk from happy cows. You can count on full flavor, minimal pasteurization, no added hormones, and no antibiotics.

Also, from the original 1900’s hand-built counter turned bar, customers can order hot dogs, nachos, BBQ sandwiches, soups, and muffins.

Adjacent to the parlor is the stock of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint where customers can have a one-on-one consultation with a knowledgeable trained employee helping them with their chalk paint needs. This may include discussing our in-house Chalk Painting services where customers can bring their furniture large or small to our workshop area where we will re-love it back to life.

Our services include small repairs, multiple chalk painting techniques, waxing, buffing, and refinishing or replacing hardware. Sometimes things are broken, beaten up, or mistreated but The Cottage Barn takes things that already exist and love them back to life.

In addition to our own finds we purchase unwanted furniture from consumers. The When it comes to home furnishings, we’ve always been ahead of the curve on recycling and reusing instead of buying new.

Our multi functional workshop offers classes of many types catered to all age groups. A few classes currently offered are Annie Sloan 101, which teaches the basics of chalk painting, “Bring your own Piece” furniture workshops, group canvas painting, and wooden monogram painting. Customers can pick from any of the classes offered and have a private event such as a Birthday Party, business meeting, or church social. Wee regularly hire local talented instructors to teach their talents in special classes.

The Cottage Barn also offers off-site event food services. We bring our own equipment and customize a menu that fits the event attendee’s desires. The off-site menu currently consists of cheeseburgers, hot dogs, bologna burgers, corn dog nuggets, hand cut french fries, BBQ, nachos, popcorn, and cotton candy. They also serve their famous Homestead Creamery Ice Cream at these off-site events.

In 2019, we expanded by adding a mobile food trailer to there wide array of services. Music events, town festivals, and sporting events are some of the places you may see the bright yellow “Cottage Barn” ice cream/food truck. Contact us well ahead of time if you would like to request our food truck for an event.

Awarded Clarksville Lake Country Chamber of Commerce’s Business of the Year for 2017, The Cottage Barn plans to continue to provide goods and services that will enhance the customers and employees social, emotional, and spiritual wellness.
